"Boyslut: A Memoir and Manifesto" Was Published 25 Months Ago

A short note of reflection and gratitude at the two-year mark.

A little over two years ago, on May 9, 2023, I published Boyslut: A Memoir and Manifesto, a book that would forever change my life.

While I hoped it would change the lives of others, too, I didn’t initially realize how profound and far-reaching an impact it would have on gay, bi, pan, non-binary, trans, polyamorous, and kink-positive queers worldwide. (And that’s truly all an author can ever hope for.)

I have received hundreds of messages from people about how Boyslut has helped permit them to release some shame surrounding sex, identity, and desires. I cannot tell you the joy this brings me, so please, always reach out to share your thoughts about the book. (You can also always say hello to me in public unless I’m crying or visibly drunk.)

Am I working on a new book?

I really struggled to discover what my next project would be after Boyslut: A Memoir and Manifesto. I started working on the proposal for Boyslut at the end of 2018, and it didn’t release until 2023. Nearly five years of my life I dedicated to writing and promoting this damn book. So, I really didn’t think about what my next book would be. It just seemed like Boyslut would never end.

I spent 18 months working through four ideas for my sophomore (solo) book: one nonfiction and three fiction. For two of them, I actually got decently far writing (20k words for one, 25k for the other) before realizing they weren’t the right books for me to write (at least now). My fifth idea, ironically the one I thought the least about—I came up with the plot one day while working out at the gym—was the one I went with. Currently, I’m nearly 50k words in with the book, so about two-thirds done with the first draft. THIS book is the book I should be writing. I’m glad I found it.

I hope to have a final draft of this bad boy in the next few months (edits from my writing mentor permitting). It’s wild to think that the earliest this book will be published is at the end of 2026 or, more likely, the beginning of 2027. But hey, we’re doing the thing, baby!
